ARTIST BOOK

The artist’s book “LIFE – New York” is a captivating exploration of the vibrant and diverse essence of New York City.

Published a year after the artist’s visit to the city, it was intricately woven into the exhibition experience, creating a seamless integration of the book’s narrative and the visual artwork on display.

This integration serves to enrich the artwork, adding depth and content while standing as a significant independent creation. Beyond the gallery space, the book offers inclusivity, inviting anyone, regardless of their background or expertise, to immerse themselves in its artistic essence and narrative. With digitally adjusted colors to match the paper’s texture, the book’s design is part of an ongoing series, ensuring its place in future publications.

This artist’s book beautifully bridges the gap between artistic exclusivity and widespread accessibility.

The artist approached the overlapping paper layers as a single mass, sculpting them like intricate sculptures. Every element was purposefully imbued with meaning.

The division between painting and text follows a precise 5:5 ratio, creating two minimal white blocks. This aims to make both text and artwork tangible embodiments of the work, existing in a concrete form. Regarding the book’s size, the artist experimented to find the right balance.

A format resembling a catalog felt formal while expanding it to match an essay monograph compromised image size. The solution emerged from considering the temporal and textural qualities of paper. The cover, connecting text and visual art, features precisely 70mm of empty blackboard space, yielding a beautiful 210mm square proportion.
